Severn Teakle Wallis's new outfit was designed and created by men from the Rose Street Community Center, a transitional house for men coming home from prison. Wallis was a prestigious Baltimore lawyer, intellectual and society man. During the Civil war he served in the Maryland house of delegates, where he and other Southern sympathizers wrote an official proclamation to the federal government condemning the war as a war of Northern aggression. The men's design highlights the positive and negative contributions Wallis made to society. On his right side is an American flag and on his left side is a confederate flag. His front lists his positive actions in blue and the back lists his positive actions in red. The last line on his back side reads, "Due to the injustices of the time we all have grown from these experiences."
